Meet Caroline - that's me!
Hello! I'm Caroline, the owner, grower, and maker behind Dewfall Flowers, an everlasting floral art and herbal business in the heart of Knoxville, Tennessee.
I grew up running around barefoot on 100 acres of woods and prairies in northeast Oklahoma, where my love of nature began and was nurtured on the banks of Hogshooter Creek.
My husband and I have called Knoxville home for 20 years, raising our 5 kids in a beautiful neighborhood built in the 1960s, surrounded by old trees and friendly neighbors (who share their sunny garden plots with me!).
My happiest days are when I'm playing in my garden, my kids are barefoot outside with me, and we come inside with that good tired feeling and dirty fingernails - and dinner is magically made already!
A new stage of life
In 2023, our youngest started school and I had 6 hours a day to myself for the first time in 15 years! I had no problems filling that void of time - and I wasn't cleaning bathrooms and meal planning (sorry, family).
I made more garden beds in our yard with the help of my beloved "lady tiller," asked neighbors if they would share their sunshine with me (our yard is hilly and shady), and dove deep into learning how to do all the things with cut flowers.
I started Dewfall Flowers to share the bounty of my ever-growing gardens with more than just close friends and neighbors.
Discovering dried flowers
The summer my celosia crop went crazy, I decided to hang some upside down in my husband's man-shed to see if I could make something out of them.
It amazed me how the flowers kept their color and shape and I was able to enjoy my everlasting flower wreath throughout the dreary winter months and beyond. I was hooked!
Now my flowers are hanging upside down in the not-so-manly anymore shed, in our kids' "Lego room," and sometimes in our bedroom.
Dewfall and dry? A welcome paradox
"I wet my plants" is a funny phrase my oldest daughter painted for my one Mother's Day. I am actually very bad at wetting my plants on a regular basis, thus my extreme gratitude for the daily dewfall God blesses the earth with, especially on those brutally hot summer days in east Tennessee.
Without that dewfall, I don't think my flowers would grow into the gorgeous blooms they become.
Watching a tiny seed grow into a beautiful flower is a miracle only our good and loving Creator can give us, just like the nourishing dew that refreshes our plants in the morning.
I pray I am honoring God's great design and beauty by capturing it and sharing it with you. It is my hope that my floral art will remind you of the gift of beauty we are given every day, if only we take the time to look for it.
"The world will be saved by beauty."
